註釋
As recently as 1965, Missouri has ranked sixth nationally in beef cow numbers. Today the show-me state ranks third in the number of beef cows and second in the total number of cattle on farms. Within Missouri, the Ozark Region seems to offer the largest source of unimproved land. In consideration of the overall importance of beef cattle to Missouri's agriculture, the University of Missouri, College of Agriculture, has been devoting a sizeable portion of its research attention to the cattle industry in an effort to obtain a better understanding of the problems confronting cattlemen and the possible solutions to those problems.
