Ohio wilderness and settled on a tract of frontier land in central Ohio; this settlement was to become Worthington. During the nineteenth century, Worthington was mainly a sleepy market village, providing necessities for the surrounding farms. In the early twentieth century, Worthington evolved from its quiet, small-town days to asuburb of the growing metropolis of Columbus. The area experienced dramatic growth after World War II created the present suburban city. Tracing WorthingtonAa's dynamic history through time is especially significant now because the town is on the verge of celebrating its bicentennial (2003), which notably corresponds with OhioAa's 200th anniversary of official statehood.
