註釋Will South Africa develop into a democratic state? In 1993 there was no clear reply to this question. In fact, the prospects for a successful transition form the established regime to a democratic dispensation appeared to be bleak. One of the principal factors militating against the democratisation of South seemed to be the widespread ignorance about the concept of democracy. This book is intended to serve as a straightfoward introduction to democracy for all South Africans. Such a wide readership is aimed at because democratisation will succeed only if every citizen of South Africa makes a contribution. Democracy deals with the factors which promote or militate against democratisation; the institutions and practices for a democratic state, and concludes with an account of the prospects of democracy of South Africa. --Back cover.
