A Handbook Dealing with Woman Abuse and the Canadian Criminal Justice System
註釋This handbook is intended to help physicians in meeting their responsibility to recognize and respond to the abuse of women. It examines the issue of woman abuse (physical, psychological, emotional, sexual, and economic), particularly as it pertains to physicians' interactions with the criminal justice system, and makes recommendations regarding professional practice. Chapter 1 provides background information about woman abuse and introduces the medical-legal interface. The remaining chapters review practice issues, background information, and clinical recommendations. Subjects covered include: manifestations of abuse; the role of medical documentation in providing high quality care & in legal proceedings; preserving evidence; asking patients about the possibility of abuse; screening for abuse; dealing with women who remain in abusive relationships; assaulted women & the justice system; physicians as witnesses; confidentiality & disclosure; violence in the medical setting; immediate actions & concerns after identification of abuse; a team approach to dealing with woman abuse; and managing woman abuse when both partners use the same physician.
