Dance has become a key symbol for the Khmer. Over the course of many years of violence, uncertainty, and destruction, dance has constituted one focus of their efforts to assert and recreate their culture and history. A people with a profound attachment to the spirit of the land that constitutes their country, the Khmer carry that spirit with and within them, thereby partially transcending geographical and cultural displacement. The Khmer embody their culture.
