註釋
"The action takes place in Romania in the final days of the Ceauçescu regime. People live in a desolate, decaying suburb without any prospects. Once chosen to be heroes of labor, they now trudge through everyday life more indifferently. They are worn out, emaciated, tired of life and seek refuge in alcohol, arguments and meanness. The only thing that remains of the visions and promises of the former social experiment, which has long since degenerated into real existing socialism, are the metal signs with the old slogans. The entire supply system, such as electricity, has collapsed; only the surveillance system has lost none of its effectiveness. The teacher Adina is gripped by a feeling of permanent fear and threat. The psychological state of emergency makes her perceive reality with hyper-accuracy. Even the smallest detail reflects the depravity of what the regime has done to people and the land. Vermin and insects seem to her to be the only truly living things, the poplars in the neighborhood become green knives for her, people seem to see their only purpose in existence in the humiliation of others. When Adina describes the pupils' harvest work as child exploitation in front of her students, she is summoned to the headmaster and instead of being reprimanded, is confronted with sexual assault. All that remains for Adina is her friendship with Clara, a confidante from childhood. However, it soon turns out that Clara's lover is a secret service officer. In the end, she owes her rescue to the outcast, because she receives a tip from her that the regime is planning mass arrests in a last-ditch attempt to hold on to power. Adina flees to friends, where she can watch the revolutionary events of the fall of the regime in Bucharest and the shooting of the dictator and his wife on television" --
