Josiah Allen was born ca. 1795 in England and immigrated to the United States sometime after the close of the War of 1812. He settled in South Carolina and married an immigrant girl from Ireland named Mary Elizabeth McGuire in the year 1826. They moved to Georgia ca. 1842 and reared a family of at least six known children. Josiah died 1 November 1851 in Georgia. Descendants lived primarily in Georgia and elsewhere.
