In the study, increasingly available information on shallow subsurface lithofacies distribution is used as the basis for a new descriptive-evolutionary classification. The system is theoretical, and defines sixteen coastal classes of sandy coasts. These classes are represented by sixteen idealized, three-dimensional models. (Modified author abstract).
