St. Mary of the Springs was the daughter congregation of the first community, St. Catherine, Kentucky, The first prioress was Angela Sansbury, foundress of St. Catherine; the second was Mother Vincentia Erskine who also served as the administrator, builder, and conservator of funds, and the third was Mother Stephanie Mohun, who extended the work of the first two. In 1911, the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs implemented plans to establish the College of Saint Mary of the Springs, as a Catholic women's college in Columbus, Ohio, now Ohio Dominican University.
