Las fuentes geohistóricas, entre las que se encuentran las de tipo catastral y paracatastral, poseen generalmente una heterogeneidad y variedad tipológica mayor que en sus versiones actuales. Así pues, la investigación con fuentes geohistóricas, abordada desde múltiples disciplinas (Geografía, Historia, Arte, Antropología, Ciencias ambientales, Urbanismo, Arquitectura, Demografía...) supone un gran impulso para el análisis, el conocimiento y el estudio del territorio, de los paisajes y de la sociedad desde una perspectiva espaciotemporal.

Esta publicación con el título Raíces profundas. Un viaje por las fuentes geohistóricas hasta la Ilustración nace del I Congreso Internacional de Fuentes Geohistóricas: territorio y sociedad en el tiempo se centrará en temáticas de relevancia: la aplicación de este tipo de fuentes en estudios de tipologías variadas; las aportaciones metodológicas o la generación de estándares de trabajo aplicables a fuentes de tipo catastral y paracatastral de distintos ámbitos y épocas; la didáctica en torno a fuentes geohistóricas; la promoción de estas fuentes a través del uso de nuevas tecnologías en el ámbito de las Humanidades y las Ciencias Sociales; el estudio y análisis de documentación catastral, paracatastral, estadística y cartográfica cuyo objetivo sea conocer las características de las propias fuentes y sus contenidos, etcétera. 

En definitiva, este encuentro científico u su posterior publicación en colaboración con las editoriales de la Universidad de Cantabria y la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid tiene el objetivo de servir de plataforma para los investigadores y técnicos que estén desarrollando aproximaciones sobre cuál es la finalidad de cada fuente, qué circunstancias ideológicas, políticas, sociales y económicas las motivaron, para qué pueden utilizarse hoy sus contenidos, qué datos se recogen y con qué criterios se agregan y elaboran, qué documentos se confeccionan directa e indirectamente y, finalmente, con qué medios humanos, con qué técnicas se levantaron y con qué recursos técnicos, humanos y de contexto se desarrollaron. 

Abstract

Geohistorical sources, among which are those of the cadastral and paracatastral type, generally have greater heterogeneity and typological variety than in their current versions. Thus, research with geohistorical sources, approached from multiple disciplines (Geography, History, Art, Anthropology, Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning, Architecture, Demography...) represents a great boost for the analysis, knowledge and study of the territory, of landscapes and society from a spatiotemporal perspective.

This publication with the title Deep roots. A journey through geohistorical sources until the Enlightenment 

was born from the I International Congress of Geohistorical Sources: territory and society in time will focus on relevant topics: the application of this type of sources in studies of various typologies; the methodological contributions or the generation of work standards applicable to cadastral and para-catastral sources from different areas and periods; didactics around geohistorical sources; the promotion of these sources through the use of new technologies in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences; the study and analysis of cadastral, paracatastral, statistical and cartographic documentation whose objective is to know the characteristics of the sources themselves and their contents, etc.

In short, this scientific meeting and its subsequent publication in collaboration with the publishers of the University of Cantabria and the Autonomous University of Madrid has the objective of serving as a platform for researchers and technicians who are developing approaches about the purpose of each source, what ideological, political, social and economic circumstances motivated them, what their contents can be used for today, what data are collected and with what criteria they are aggregated and elaborated, what documents are prepared directly and indirectly and, finally, with what human resources, with what techniques they were built and with what technical, human and contextual resources they were developed.
