註釋Kiawana is no stranger to hardship. After being taken from her People and homeland to live with the pale faces, she finds herself back with the People. Having her heart broken so many times, she refuses to let anyone close enough to soften her clay-wrapped heart. Out of respect, she listens to Old Grandmother, who tells her not to bury her pain, knowing that fear is her greatest enemy. However, like a bird with a broken wing she is not yet ready to fly. In her quest to heal and find love, Kiawana begins to realize that her heart must be shattered into a thousand pieces for it to become whole again. She must look within to find peace. As the People face forced migration, Kiawana must choose to forgive and move forward. Her experiences and her own path to healing produce a unique perspective, aiding her in future choices and healing others around her.
