註釋Discusses the activities of Schwarzbart, a Jewish member of the Polish government-in-exile's parliament during World War II. Schwarzbart believed that the common struggle of Poles and Jews against the Nazis would contribute to better relations after the war. But mutual suspicion was stronger than Schwarzbart's strategy of building trust. Reports from Poland brought news of the antisemitic attitudes of Poles and the pro-Soviet attitudes of the Jews. Jewish soldiers complained of antisemitism in the Polish Army. Deals with these problems during the formation of Anders' Army in the USSR and its evacuation to Iran. Discusses, as well, the problem of the reports about mass extermination of the Jews in Poland, and the lack of quick reactions. Stola proposes that those who received such information (including Schwarzbart) did not fully believe it. Describes efforts of the government-in-exile to save Polish Jews, without result. Reflects on the failure of Schwarzbart's policy and his resentment against the Polish leaders and the Poles at large.
