註釋
The majority of items were generated by Hodges' tenure as Consul-General. These include Portuguese documents and letters; correspondence with Ferdinand Gardner, the vice-consul of the United States; a few papers relating to the colonization of black Americans in Africa; and correspondence pertaining to Sierra Leone. The papers relating to trade are extensive. There are lists of current prices for commodities. The records of the ships that came into Cape Verde ports list their dates of arrival, descriptions, names, commanders, owners, number of seamen aboard, ports cleared at and ports cleared for, cargoes, and dates of departure. Salt was a major export item of the islands and there are many records of salt shipments. There is also some information on slave trade, a slave mutiny, piracy, and shipwrecks.
