I was driving along back to my apartment and listening to 'One Down, One Up' again -- the orange double-disc recorded live at The Half Note -- which i hadn't heard in a while. It was on this drive all of a sudden when everything hit me all at once. The energy and trajectory of the man and his quartet; the intention of his mission; the spiritual intensity with which he lived and performed it. Over the next couple of weeks, as i dug deeper into the records & writings, into Trane's life & life-work, the poems started arriving: 15 in 3 days, 50 in 10, the rest pretty much by day 17 -- like a 2 & 1/2 week long flood of poetry.
