To Sail for India
註釋A young surgeon's account of his passage out to Calcutta at the time of the Indian Mutiny. His adventures over a period of two years include accompanying sick and wounded to Cape Town where Dr David Livingstone is raising funds for his famous walk across Africa. He spends six months on one of the first steel warships cruising the coast of Burma - a paddle steamer build for the opium wars with China - before returning home as surgeon on a clipper ship.
