Arnold Jacobs: His Artistic and Pedagogical Legacies in the 21st Century
註釋This text will focus on the evolution of the concepts and skills Jacobs taught throughout his career as evident in the work of a selected group of his pupils who have had professional teaching or performing careers for the 25 years since Jacobs's passing in 1998. As such, this book will serve as a unique document of the artistic and pedagogical legacies of one of the great brass masters of the 20th century. The group of his former students was selected by the authors to include a divergent spectrum of experiences-both historical as well as in their respective specialties. For example, some of the Jacobs's former pupils started lessons in the 1950s and continued until 1998-the year of his passing. Others, started their lessons in the 1980s or 1990s, when Jacobs's teaching had fully matured. Similarly, the authors tried to present Jacobs's teaching from the point of view of of a variety of instrumentalists-that is, trumpeters, trombonists, hornists, tubists, and even woodwind players. What follows, are the personal accounts of some of the top professionals in the field of wind performance and pedagogy as they share their experiences while studying with Jacobs.
