註釋
According to new, environmentally-oriented policies of the federal government, a nation-wide ecological framework is required to provide standardised, multiscale geographical reporting and monitoring units. This report describes the methods used to construct the spatial ecological framework, the concepts of the hierarchical levels of generalisation (ecozones, ecoregions, and ecodistricts), their linkages to various resource data sources, and some examples of applications of the framework. The bulk of the report consists of descriptions of the 217 ecoregions that make up Canada's 15 ecozones. These descriptions provide general comments about the climatic, physical, and biological properties of each ecozone and ecoregion, and include comments about unique features or those that help to distinguish adjacent ecoregions, where possible.
