Foreign Direct Investment in Indian Retail -- A Boon to Indian Economy
註釋India is in the 3rd attractive place for Foreign Direct Investment. The reason being India is the most populous democracy in the world and is the second most populated country with 1.2 billion people. The large working-age population will no doubt translate to an attractive consumer base compared to other economies of the world, placing India as one of the main targets of the 15 global retail players. The demand side factors for the growth of organized retail in India were income growth, urbanization and urban consumption, women's labor force participation and changing lifestyle and convenience and the major supply-side factor was the flow of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the retail sector following market liberalization. In terms of the Retail sector, foreign investment is currently limited to 51 percent in single brand retail stores and 100 percent FDI in wholesale cash and carry. This study has analyzed the advantages of allowing the foreign direct investment in retail sector. Secondary research was carried out in the form of a literature review, to compare and contrast and interpret the issues related to government policy specifically FDI in Retail in various countries and India.
