註釋The ruling passion of Hudson's art was the sea, which led him to sail the New England coast in the 1880s and '90s in search of subject matter for paintings and photographs. His earliest photographs depict harbors from New York to Boothbay, as well as a wide range of vessels at dock and under sail. In 1898 he built a cottage on Monhegan and energetically pursued photographing every aspect of the island.
