註釋Born in Yedo, Hokousai is said to be the son of a mirror maker in the Tokugawa court.His childhood name is Tokitaro; the more he changed his price to that of Tétsoujiro.He first entered as a student at Katsoukawa Shunshô, and as an artist, he took the name of Katsoukawa Shunrô. There, he paints, actors and theatre scenes in the style of Tsoutzoumi Tô-rin, and produces many drawings on loose sheets, called Kiôka Sourimono.Chased out of his master's house, for reasons that remained unknown, he took over from the painter Tawaraya-Sôri, and was recognized as the painter's successor.Since then, he has changed his style, creating a brand new one, which is personal to him. Then he passed his name from Sori to his student Sôji, and gave back to the Tawaraya family, the signature he had received from them.
