John Bates (1598-1666) immigrated in 1624 from England to Abraham Piercey's land grant along the James River in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Daniels and died in York County, Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, California and elsewhere.
