註釋This research examines The Listening Program and its benefits of increased communication and social skills for children with autism. The Listening Program is an auditory processing intervention that is non-intrusive and offers support in communication, social interactions and behaviors for children with autism. The Listening Program is based on the research of Dr. Alfred Tomatis. Dr. Tomatis invented the Tomatis method, which is a very expensive and intrusive auditory processing intervention. The diagnosis of autism is on the rise in the United States and it is important for the public school system to find effective interventions for these special children that can be used with little financial burden, The Listening Program provides a more cost effective approach than the Tomatis method for auditory intervention in the public school system. People with autism have many issues and a great deal of them stem from their ability to process auditorily. In this study, the investigator will use The Listening Program to increase the ability of students with autism to communicate, thereby increasing their level of social skills in becoming a part of the mainstream within the school system and community. An increase in communication will decrease frustration and problem behaviors. Speech and language development will increase their comprehension of text and their ability to understand the world around them. This research will show that The Listening Program is an effective and viable therapy for children with autism in the public school system.
