註釋This report describes the Offending Across the Lifecourse (OPAL) project, which examined the criminogenic risks associated with non-custodial offenders. The project, in Queensland, Australia, undertook interviews with a sample of 480 offenders, who were asked about their childhood and adolescence, experiences of victimisation, mental health, drug and alcohol abuse, criminal activity, and involvement in correctional treatment programmes. It found that OPAL respondents had experienced high rates of family turmoil and of childhood abuse or neglect; and that victimisation experiences in adulthood were also high, in terms of criminal victimisation, sexual victimisation and partner violence. The report discusses the findings, and examines the links between early childhood victimisation and outcomes in adulthood (crime, substance abuse, mental health problems and re-victimisation). The report concludes that these individuals often lead chaotic and disadvantaged lives. It concludes by considering key themes from the research, and policy implications.
