After an introduction on the nature & causes of congenital anomalies and an overview of initiatives undertaken to monitor congenital anomalies in Canada, background information on each category is followed by a review of known risk factors, national-level birth prevalence data, and provincial/territorial & international comparisons. The impact of prenatal diagnosis on the surveillance of the specific anomalies and prevention opportunities are also discussed. The final chapter is devoted to the topics of prenatal testing & diagnosis in Canada, including the types of tests available.
