註釋
[Abstract] The purpose of this heuristic study was to explore and describe the experience of the question: "What is the experience of accepting one's decision to divorce?" Key component terms were defined at the outset of the investigation. The experience included physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual dimensions. A review of the literature produced numerous books and several articles related to the subject. Related theses and dissertation abstracts were also noted and discussed. Qualitative versus quantitative methods of research were discussed, as were both phenomenological and heuristic models of research design. The heuristic model provides the conceptual framework for the methods and procedures. Taped interviews of eight adults, as well as journal entries of the researcher provided the data. Twenty-two themes emerged and were grouped into three clusters. Cluster one (severing the bond) included six themes: process/cycle, transitional instability, death/rebirth, coping strategies, social support, and lack of social support. Cluster two (the fallout) included ten themes: anger, denial, fear, loss of self, guilt, shame, self-punishment, self-doubt, despair, and grief. Cluster three (reconstruction) included six themes: learning self-reliance, personal growth and discovery, hope, ex-spouses, child support, and no regrets. Findings show the experience to be a difficult, painful, and life-transforming journey. Implications for further study are discussed, as are practical applications to law, education, religion, and psychotherapy.
