Letters, Dated August-September 1936, to Bernard Smith
註釋Collection of ten typed letters (approximately 40 pages total) written by B. Traven from August-September 1936, but mostly undated, giving advice on traveling in Mexico. Mr. Smith, who was B. Traven's editor at Alfred A. Knopf in the 1930s, responsible for such English translations as The Death Ship, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and The Bridge in the Jungle, traveled to Mexico in 1936. When he asked if he could visit Traven while there, Traven evaded him in his usual fashion, but generously offered a car and guide for his entire stay in Mexico, along with the travel advice and a detailed schedule contained in this series of letters. The third through tenth letters were delivered daily to Smith by the woman Traven hired as a guide for Smith and his wife during their trip. Also included is a carbon copy of one letter in reply from Bernard Smith dated September 11, 1936, originally accepting Traven's generous offer.
