The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on one of the systems of great current interest, the silver/polymer interface. First, the components of this interface are considered separately. Studies of reactions of environmental gases with silver are summarized. Then, candidate fluor-polymers and polymethylmethacrylate are considered independently of the metal. The thermal, photo, and oxidative degradation reactions are outlined briefly.
