Os escravos
註釋The present three poems are Vozes d'Africa, Tragedia no lar, and O navio negreiro. The Vozes d'Africa and O navio negriro were in the run-up to the abolition of slavery in Brazil recited religiously at Abolitionist meetings and portests and are today considered the preeminent works of public and declamatory Brazilian poetry. The first complete printing of Os Escravos was Os escravos / poema brazileiro divido em duas partes, edited by Mucio Teixeira. There then followed the present work, the first issue of the 'core' poems of Os Escrvaos published outside of Brazil.
