Difficult Passages in the Epistles
註釋Robert Stein, author of Difficult Passages in the Gospels, articulates four hermeneutical principles that "illustrate how one can come to understand the meaning an author gave to his words." Stein selects representative verses from Epistles whose meaning can be discerned by using one of the four principles. In the process he outlines a method that can be applied to other perplexing verses in this genre. Stein concludes this book by bringing all four principles to bear on two of the more difficult passages in the Epistles, though he is willing to confess that one of them, Paul's reference to baptism for the dead, "seems to defy successful resolution.".
