Judicial sentence in the appeal of Rafael Calvo de Castro
註釋Copy of a judicial sentence, probably from May 1863, handed down by the judges of the Audiencia in Manila in the appeal of Rafael Calvo de Castro, former alcalde mayor of the province of Camarines Sur. On Feb. 11, 1863, during the residencia (hearing into the accountability of public officials) of Calvo de Castro, a lower court judge found him guilty of 30 charges of misconduct and negligence while in office. Sentences of imprisonment and fines are listed for each charge. However, considering Calvo de Castro's appeal of the sentences, Audiencia judges absolve him of half of the charges, and sentence him to two years in exile overseas. In addition, he is prohibited from holding public office in the future, and he must pay 242 pesos in restitution, and other amounts as indemnification for damages suffered. The decision is signed by oidores Miguel de Heras, Luis de Yandiola, Francisco Perez de Anaya, José María Alise, and Bonifacio Saenz de Vizmanos.
