Joseph Hatfield (ca. 1739-1832), possibly a son of George Hatfield, was born in Virginia. He married (1) Elizabeth Vance Smith (ca. 1735- 1778) ca. 1760. They had six children. He married (2) Rachael Smith (ca. 1754-1858) in 1779. They had five children. Most descendants live in West Virginia, Kentucky, and surrounding states.
