註釋Two major tributaries, the French Broad and the Holston, unite just above Knoxville to form the main Tennessee River. Projects constructed by TVA on these two tributaries made an important contribution to the war effort of the United States during World War II by making blocks of badly needed power available at crucial stages of the conflict. The Douglas project, whose name was derived from Douglas Bluff, located on the French Broad about 32 miles above its confluence with the Holston, controls a drainage area of 4,541 square miles.
