This study compares the effectiveness of using audiobooks versus books on CD-ROM to improve reading fluency and comprehension. Sixty-four third graders in two general education classrooms read four titles, each reading two titles using the audiobook and two titles on CD-ROM. Mean gains were determined for the two treatment groups. No significant differences were found between the use of audiobooks and books on CD-ROM in improving reading speed, accuracy, or comprehension. Implications and recommendations for further studies are discussed.
