This book on the life and achievements of Rear Admiral David Watson Taylor (1864-1940) grew out of a preservation project of the Navy Laboratories' history program. Initiated during the summer of 1984, the project was undertaken to save information that appears on the deteriorating pages of seven books of Taylor's correspondence. He wrote these letters between 1901 and 1914 while directing the Experimental Model Basin, a facility that he designed.
