註釋This booklet is a guide for discussion among teacher groups, including affiliates of the International Reading Association and the National Council of Teachers of English. The booklet presents 14 brief case studies designed to increase awareness of the range of meanings embraced today by the term literacy--reading and writing of course, but also the understanding of other visual and symbolic images that occur within the student's social, educational, and personal experience. Each case study discussed in the booklet includes questions intended to stimulate a sharing of personal attitudes and experiences as well as further reading and study. (MS)
