A neural-based technique is used to model the user on the basis of their interaction with the system. Such a design is shown to overcome some of the problems associated with current user modelling methodologies. Representation of the user is built by example, removing the need for an explicit, exhaustive knowledge base, and the system is shown to be domain-independent, tolerant to noise, and resource efficient.
