Rebellious Structures
註釋At the turn of the century, several prominent women writers--Olive Schreiner, Sarah Grand, and George Egerton among them--rejected the conventional ideal of the "womanly woman" and, with it, the well-made novel in which the ideal figured. Placing the writers and their work firmly in the socio-historical context of the late 19th century, this refreshing study illuminates the writing inspired by the ideology.
