The Art of Play
註釋It is not commonly known that several of the world`s most popular board games were conceived in the Indian subcontinent, including Ludo (or pachisi), Snakes and Ladders, and not least chess, the greatest and most universal board games of all. Gaming with dice and the playing of board games have had a major role in Indian culture since atleast the third millennium BCE. While many articles on this fascinating subject have been written over the last century, no single volume has appeared addressing the history of Indian games in their cultural and artistic aspects. This book, with eleven articles by leading authorities, offers an initial survey of the great tradional games of India.
