The epilogue by Zweig (p. 108-145) consists of an essay discussing other themes - Nazi antisemitism and the use of modern technology in the extermination process. Mentions the important role of antisemitism and of the rapacity of the Germans for Jewish property in Hitler's popularity. On p. 147 Detlev Claussen explains the political reasons why Zweig was unable to publish this memoir in 1946.
