A richly illustrated history of the Jews and Conversos in Viseu, Portugal, in the medieval and early modern periods. The last 52 pp. contain an English translation of the text. Pp. 19-48 trace the history of the Jews in Portugal, recalling the imposition of the yellow badge in 1289, after 1385, and in 1481; the expulsion of 1496 and the forced conversions in 1497; and the subsequent persecution of Conversos by the Inquisition. The rest of the book, on Viseu, also mentions the names and tragic fate of local Conversos persecuted by the Inquisition.
