Meine Juden--eure Juden
註釋Describes the history of the postwar Jewish community in West Germany, its social structure, its contributions to German life, Jewish communal politics, relations with world Jewry and Israel, and the dilemma of German-Jewish identity. Relates incidents of antisemitism and an insensitive attitude to Holocaust survivors from 1946 to the present, but notes that, according to public opinion polls, antisemitism has greatly decreased over the years. Pp. 115-164, "Juden in der 'antifaschistischen' DDR", chronicle the antisemitism of East German authorities; their refusal to recognize the special needs of Holocaust survivors and Jewish communities; persecution of Jews during the late Stalinist period; and Stasi infiltration and manipulation of Jewish community organizations. Describes desecration of Jewish cemeteries by young rowdies in the DDR long before unification, but asserts that a smaller percentage of the population were antisemitic than in West Germany.
