註釋The town of Bishop, Iowa, seems to be a perfect picture of contentment with a special small-town closenessuntil the local sheriff finds seven skeletons in on old hotel that is being torn down on the outskirts of town. The local medical examiner is called in to remove and examine the skeletons. Upon finding a bullet imbedded in one of the chest bones, it is determined that the seven were murdered. Media attention grows and the spotlight is focused on Bishop.An anthropologist is called in to determine the age, sex and dates of death of the seven. He finds that four were women: two black, one white (who was pregnant) and one Mexican; and two were men, both black. When the bones are found to date back sixty years, the media and the sheriff lose interest.The examiner finds himself drawn back to the skeletons and yearns to know who they were, and how they died. He slowly realizes that the town of Bishop is rampant with Klu Klux Klanners and that Bishop's solidarity is based on bigotry and racism. Further investigation leads to unearthing hidden secrets, both past and present, blackmail and finally, exposing the Klan.
