"The title of this work refers to the wonderful and haunting composition by Peter Maxwell Davies, entitled Farewell to Stromness. Maxwell Davies lives in the Orkneys. The very dilapidated shop sign was photographed by me in Stromness between heavy showers. The shop remained empty with no evidence of what it had once been."--Statement by the artist.
