註釋
This collection consists of two account books of Mark Collins Sibley. The first, dated 1816-1825, Sibley recorded names of those with whom he boarded in East Sudbury, including lawyer Gustavus A. Somerby, a Mr. Noyes (possibly cabinetmaker Samuel S. Noyes), Jeremiah Haynes, and Asa Wheeler. Beginning in October 1816, one page of entries refers to Boston. By March 1818, Sibley had begun working with J. F. Heard (probably Jonathan Heard, dry goods merchant and grocer); he continued with Heard at least until October 1819, at wages of $22 per month. Sibley's account book lists such woodworking tasks as hanging doors, building and mending ploughs, wheelbarrows, yokes, sleds, sleighs, carts, wagons, and furniture, repairing buildings and boats, building fences, filing and setting saws, and removing and resetting "chace wheels." Construction of a house is attributed to him as early as 1818. By 1829 his entries refer to goods "out of store" for which he was paid either in cash or, more frequently, in commodities. He rented his horse, oxen, cart, and wagon throughout the period covered by the account book and, in earlier years, he apparently worked as a day laborer. Names that recur in this volume include Gen. Micah M. Rutter (1779-1837), Dr. Ebenezer Ames (1788-1861), and Widow Roby. Four loose items consist of arithmetical calculations.
