註釋This publication provides an assessment of the state of Gaelic culture in Nova Scotia as a prerequisite for developing a Gaelic cultural policy for the province. The first section reviews the history of Gaelic culture in Nova Scotia, including its Celtic roots in Europe, the Gaelic settlement of Nova Scotia, the status of the Gaelic language, Gaelic education, and new initiatives in the multicultural era. Section two focusses on Nova Scotia Gaelic culture, including the social environment, cultural expression (language arts, song, drama, music, dance), and Gaelic culture in the modern media. Section three discusses Gaelic cultural expression through community-led and institutional approaches, and reviews some initiatives in cultural promotion. Section four estimates the impact of Gaelic culture (events, language & arts lessons, products such as books & recordings, touring musicians) on the economy. The final section analyses the strengths & weaknesses of Gaelic Nova Scotia along with opportunities & challenges related to strengthening the province's Gaelic culture. A list of Gaelic events is appended.
