註釋Historically-oriented studies of the arms race tend to focus on major weapons and ignore the associated subsystems. In this book, the authors consider one subsystem--the navigation instruments and land-based transmitters--of the submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) system. Paying particular attention to the Loran-C and Omega navigational units, the authors are able to draw conclusions on the accuracy of submarine-launched missiles and the reliability of America's sea-based nuclear deterrent.
