A workshop on Competition Policy and Utility Regulation was held in 1997 in Tanzania, under the auspices of the Parastatal Sector Reform Commission, and organised by CEEST. The main objective was to prepare for the divestiture by the Commission of public utility parastals in the sectors of energy, transportation, telecommunications and water. The workshop addressed three main issues: the overall issues and setting them within a competition policy framework; the application of policy to some of the individual sectors which are most important; and the institutional framework most appropriate to take forward the policies in Tanzania.
