註釋
My wife lived 14 months after diagnosis with the disease and in that time had victories as well as setbacks. Unlike other cancers which can be caught early, pancreatic cancer truly is a silent killer. There are few warning signs of the disease which can sleep for years before it spreads to other organs, causing pain and eventual diagnosis. When that occurs, it is too late. When George Simon decided to take a position in Louisiana, his loving wife was right there by his side--in spirit at least. Their long awaited retirement plans (when they could finally do those things that had been pushed to the side for so many years) required her to stay at their family home in Ohio for two more years to secure her pension. They soldiered through the long distance relationship as they had done with so many problems before: together. On St. Patrick's Day 2011, everything changed. George called Mary Ann, while boarding a plane, and she began to complain of stroke-like symptoms. He was in a state of confusion and several states away. When he landed, his son informed him that Mary Ann had been the victim of a stroke. It seemed like an open-and-shut illness, but it was just the beginning with their long struggle with pancreatic cancer. Losing You is a story of loss and pain, but also of the love that a family and a community can find in their deepest depths of pain. George Simon recounts the highs and lows, the victories and the setbacks against a silent killer that ultimately claimed his wife's life, but not the love of their relationship.
