註釋"George and Kate Boldero travelled to New Zealand [on the "Mersey"] in 1861 and were granted 80 acres of land at Mangawai (Mangawhai) where they raised a family of ten children. George's younger brothers Aleck (in 1876) [on the "Chile"] and Edmund (in 1893) [on the "Austral"], followed and they also settled in Mangawai. In the 77 years between George and Kate's arrival in 1861 and theie eldest son John's departure in 1938 the Boldero families were an integral part of the development of the Mangawai settlement. Whilt they raised their families, converting the land into productive farmland to support themselves, they were also heavily involved in the development of the local community in which they lived, particularly during the period 1862-1900. This book copmmences with the early Boldero history in England, especuially the time of John and Sarah Maria Boldero, who were the parents of George, Aleck and Edmund, in Rattlesden, Suffolk from 1800 to 1890. The second section records the arrival of George and Kate to Mangawai, the development of the community during the next two decades, and their deep involvement with the community through ratepayers' meetings, St. Michael's Church, [and] education, and also summarises the family's land transactions. The third section provides a brief history of each of George and Kate's ten children and finally, the fourth and fifth sections provide similar summaries of the families of Aleck and Edmund Boldero."--Back cover.
