Survey of Building Envelope Failures in the Coastal Climate of British Columbia
註釋The purpose of this study was to correlate building envelope performance problems, which are currently being experienced in low-rise wood-frame residential buildings in coastal British Columbia, with sources of moisture and features of construction & design. The study team examined 46 buildings in the British Columbia lower mainland, 37 of which had experienced performance problems. The buildings contained three cladding types and a range of sheathing, insulation, and framing materials & configurations. Specific questions addressed in a survey of the buildings included how water was entering into the exterior wall assemblies, differences in performance among buildings using different wall materials, and factors affecting envelope water management. Based on the findings, recommendations are presented on various aspects of the building design & construction process which will impact positively on the performance of envelope assemblies.
